What are Volunteer Captains?
Volunteer Captains are dedicated volunteer leaders who help create a welcoming, productive, and mission-driven experience for fellow volunteers at Feeding Tampa Bay.
Serving alongside Feeding Tampa Bay staff, Volunteer Captains provide mentorship and guidance to volunteers, answer questions, and help address minor challenges that may arise during volunteer shifts. As trusted representatives of our organization, Captains model our values, inspire others through service, and help strengthen our connection to the community.
Through their leadership and commitment, Volunteer Captains play an essential role in ensuring volunteer experiences are engaging, impactful, and aligned with Feeding Tampa Bay's mission of building a movement to end hunger.

How to become a Volunteer Captain
There are two primary ways to become a Volunteer Captain with Feeding Tampa Bay:
Staff Nominations
Our Volunteer Stafff Leads are always looking for leaders within the volunteers who serve with us. Staff members are encouraged to discuss leadership opportunities with volutneers who they feel would make a well-suited captain.
Self Nomination/Expressing Interest
We welcome volunteers to express their interest at any time. Simply complete our Volunteer Captain Interest Form, and a member of our Volunteer Programs team will contact you to discuss available opportunities, scheduling needs, and the skills and qualities we seek in Volunteer Captains.
Volunteer Captains support more than 200 volunteer shifts each week across Feeding Tampa Bay's programs and locations. Our goal is to have Volunteer Captains serving alongside staff and volunteers at every shift we offer.
Please note that some shifts may already have assigned Volunteer Captains, and submitting an interest form does not guarantee placement. Captain opportunities are based on organizational needs, shift availability, and volunteer experience.
